Summary
This research project aims to integrate two major theoretical perspectives. One perspective is that of personality psychology, which emphasizes the “stable core” of individuals in explanations of behavior and work outcomes. Another perspective is found in network research, where the prevailing tradition is to focus on the relations between individuals. The current research examines how personality and network characteristics are themselves related, and how each relates to performance and career success in organizations.
Relevance
Our work examining personality and network characteristics – emphasizing who you are and who you know – has broad relevance to managers and researchers interested in understanding performance and career success in organizations.
