Biography

Dr. Huang is a Full Professor and the inaugural Amazon Distinguished Professor of Business Analytics at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, and an honorary faculty member at the UCL School of Management. Before joining UT, he was a tenured associate professor and the William S. McKiernan Family ’78 Faculty Fellow at the Carroll School of Management, Boston College. He received his PhD from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

He is broadly interested in business analytics, data science, operations-marketing interface, quantitative marketing, supply chain management, service operations, and sustainable operations. His research articles have been published in top business journals such as Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Marketing Science, Management Science, and Production and Operations Management. He has won various research awards including the 2018 POMS Wickham Skinner Early Career Research Accomplishments Award, the 2018 Most Influential Paper Award in Service Operations, and the 2015 Wickham Skinner Best Paper Award. He has consulted with companies such as General Mills, Synergies, among others. He is currently a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management and Associate Editor for Naval Research Logistics and Decision Sciences. His dedicated service to the research communities was repeatedly recognized by various awards including the Management Science Meritorious Service Award (2019), the M&SOM Meritorious Service Award four years in a row (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020), and the Production and Operations Management Outstanding Reviewer Award (2017). He has taught courses in business analytics at undergraduate and graduate levels at institutions in Europe and in the U.S. He was recognized as a Carroll School Teaching Star, which is awarded to faculty members who serve as examples of the exceptional teaching quality and who earned the most favorable evaluations from their students while also challenging the students intellectually.
