UCLSoM Alumnus Ulrik Hansen's start up raises $30 million in Series B funding

UCL School of Management Alumnus Ulrik Stig Hansen recently raised a remarkable $30 million in Series B funding for his data development company, Encord.  Encord is a cutting-edge data development platform that simplifies the preparation and management of complex datasets needed for AI models. Already making waves in the industry, Encord has assisted over 200 of the world’s top AI teams - and this latest funding marks only the beginning of their ambitious plans for the future.

The investment was led by Next47 with participation from their existing investors such as CRV, Crane Venture Partners and Y Combinator. This substantial funding not only highlights the critical role that AI plays in shaping the future of technology but also provides Encord with the resources to continue advancing in this rapidly evolving field.

Ulrik graduated from UCL School of Management’s MSc Management programme in 2015 and co-founded Encord alongside Eric Landau in 2020. What began as a two-person operation has rapidly expanded into a thriving company with around 70 employees, positioning itself as the leading development platform for multimodal AI teams.

Encord’s momentum shows no sign of slowing down. Recently, they announced the launching of Encord Index, a new programme designed to streamline how AI teams manage large and diverse datasets, preparing them for AI operations securely and efficiently.

Hansen’s vision is to continue revolutionising the AI industry. To achieve this, he plans to expand both the team and company, driving new, innovative ideas and ensuring Encord’s continued growth and success.
