The end of May was impactful for the UCL School of Management, as UCL alumni and consultancy firm Capgemini presented their latest report on ‘Gen AI and Knowledge Working Skills’ at the AI World Congress in London on Friday 31 May.
Dr Paul Walton, Principal at Capgemini, and Mehul Singh, an MSc Business Analytics student, represented UCL and delivered an insightful presentation on ‘Gen AI and Knowledge Working Skills.’ This presentation was based on a collaborative research project between UCL students, alumni, and Capgemini professionals, conducted under the Award Winning UCL MBA Analytics Lab.
The Analytics Lab engages students, alumni and corporate partners to explore the frontiers of how analytics can enable business. Integrating students across the continuum from undergraduate to MBA with corporate research is an excellent learning opportunity and opportunity for our students to gain real world experience.
The research, carried out by UCL students Mehul Singh (MSc Business Analytics), Michelle Do (MSc Business Analytics), and alumni Kamen Inanov (MSc Entrepreneurship), explores the transformative impact of generative AI on skill development in the workplace. The research was also co-authored by professionals from Capgemini, highlighting the valuable collaboration between academia and industry.
The report argues that while generative AI (commonly referred to as GenAI) is set to revolutionise the nature of the workforce, many organisations are not yet prepared for this technology and lack the skills required for its efficient implementation and use. Carried out at the UCL School of Management’s Analytics Lab, the report analyses the changes in skills required and the ways in which organisations can approach this vital reskilling.
This event highlighted the practical implications of academic research in solving real-world business challenges. The collaborative effort between UCL and Capgemini not only advanced knowledge in the field but also demonstrated how academic research can directly impact industry practices.
