On Thursday 07 November, UCL School of Management hosted Catalyst for Change: Educating Aspiring Young Entrepreneurs, an evening dedicated to improving entrepreneurial practices within education. Part of the Festival of Social Science, the evening was open to teachers, industry experts and community members working with young people aged 13 - 17, who aspire to make a difference within the entrepreneurial landscape.
The evening began with a networking session, followed by a panel discussion with key members of the community, including Professor Steve Yoo from UCL School of Management, Olivia Saunders from the Royal Greenwich Trust School, and Paul Herman from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy. The discussion was moderated by Dr Jessica Hayton from University College London, and provided an insight into the history of entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurial learning can be incorporated into the curriculum, co-curriculum, and extra-curricular activities.
Discussing the significance of the event, UCL School of Management Professor and Deputy Director Susan Smith stated, “Entrepreneurship education of young people is important as evidence suggests that it develops key skills for entrepreneurial success including creativity, persistence and communication. Even short interventions can have a lasting impact on entrepreneurial intentions.
We were delighted to bring together speakers from academia, schools and the newly launched Young Entrepreneurs Academy programme for the Festival of Social Science event. Those working with young people aged 13-17 are invited to join our entrepreneurship education community of practice.”
