UCL School of Management alumni team organise key events in east Asia

Throughout November, the UCL School of Management alumni team have been travelling extensively throughout east Asia in order to reconnect with and celebrate our incredible alumni community. Holding a number of events across Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei, our alumni team have facilitated expert discussion panels, guest lectures, and networking sessions designed to reinforce our reputation as London’s Global University.

Firstly, on 04 November, the UCL School of Management kicked off its East Asia engagement trip with a memorable event in Hong Kong, bringing together 30 alumni who were joined by UCL School of Management Professors Alan Parkinson and Lynsie Chew. The highlight of the gathering was a keynote speech by Russell Pell, a distinguished UCL alumnus, who shared his consultancy journey and professional experiences in Hong Kong. Attendees found the session highly insightful, leaving with valuable takeaways.

The second event in the series took place at the Kempinski Hotel Shanghai on 08 November, featuring an inspiring panel discussion led by Alan and Lynsie. The session explored the future of accounting and the transformative impact of digital innovation, offering attendees valuable insights into industry trends. We were also delighted to welcome a host of panellists to the event, including Adam Davis from BritCham Shanghai, Vicky Li, Vice President of AICPA & CIMA, Jiahui Jerry Feng, a Senior Consultant at Deloitte, Wellington Tai Liu, China Public Policy Pricipal at Amazon and Zheming Xing, Founder and President of Taskforce Consultancy. We’d also like to thank the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for supporting our event.

The final stop on the East Asia engagement trip was the inaugural alumni engagement event in Taipei, which was held at the Grand Hyatt Taipei on 11 November. This event brought together UCL alumni, deans, academics from Taiwan, and the British Council Taiwan Director Susan Milner. We were also thrilled to welcome representatives from the British Chamber of Commerce, as well as our very own UCL School of Management Director and Professor Davide Ravasi, who shared exciting updates on our development plans, highlighting the School’s vision for the future.

We also heard from Douglas Chao, a 2023 graduate of the IMB programme, who shared fond memories of his time at UCL School of Management and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the School’s impact on his journey. Davide also emphasised the importance of fostering deeper connections with Taiwan’s academic community and expressed his enthusiasm for future collaborations with alumni and partners in the region.

In addition to our fantastic alumni community, we’d also like to extend a very big thank you to UCL School of Management’s Alumni and Global Engagement teams, as well as our faculty members, who have coordinated these events seamlessly and ensured a series of fantastic events.
