The latest research report by The UCL Sustainability Lab in collaboration with Mott MacDonald and the Institution of Structural Engineers distills the outcomes of a robust, interdisciplinary endeavour. Focused on enhancing knowledge exchange, understanding success factors, and addressing gaps, the project delves into sustainable built environments and urban ecosystems.
By bridging disciplinary divides, the study sought to encourage collaboration and informed decision-making within the built environment sector. It uncovered influential elements of sustainable urban ecosystems while highlighting significant barriers to research and policy implementation.
Co-authored by Zehra Lara Tekbas (MSc Business Analytics), Audrey-Frédérique Lavoie (MPA, Urban Innovation and Policy), and Kely Galopoulou (MSc Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Planning), this report provides a strategic roadmap for the construction industry, emphasising the importance of an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to sustainability. The report advocates for multi-scale, cross-sectoral collaboration to drive meaningful change and chart a course towards a more sustainable urban future.
