Earlier this week, the annual MSc Entrepreneurship Pitch Day took place on Level 50 of One Canada Square and showcased the incredible projects and startups that our students have been working on. Competing for a range of cash prizes which will then be invested into their businesses to accelerate growth, our students pitched their business ideas to a range of experts, angel investors and VC representatives.
The event was sponsored by the Engineers in Business Fellowship (EIBF), a registered charity that promotes the importance and value of business education for engineers in order to improve lives and the UK and global economies. The EIBF also sponsored the Best Pitch prize for this year’s event.
On the day, we welcomed guests from within UCL and the wider business community to give our students a platform to present their ideas to an audience of experts in a variety of industries and develop essential entrepreneurial skills such as raising funds, pitching and networking techniques.
We were also joined by guest speaker Paul Herman, CEO at Bluebox Corporate Finance, who provided a presentation throughout the event. An entrepreneur himself, Paul is currently developing The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, a philanthropic venture aimed at inspiring entrepreneurialism in 13 to 17 years old by equipping them with the real-life skills they will need to create, nurture and scale a business.
our winners
There were three prizes, two awarded by the judging panel for Best Pitch and Best Idea and the Best Showcase was the people’s choice award where attendees voted by investing UCL dollars which were then replaced with a real cheque for £1,000.
Best Pitch
Taking home the Best Pitch prize was Kungul, a healthcare, beauty and wellness startup founded by Nensi Ahmetbeja and Erblina Shehu. Kungul is a mobile app that enables users to assess their skincare products on the presence of potentially harmful chemicals through a simple scan. The app then recommends healthier alternatives on the market.
Best Idea
With so many brilliant ideas from our entrepreneurs, it was hard for the judges to select just one winner. However, Hertauli Harianja took the prize home after impressing the judges with her startup Salonkita.id, a beauty business empowering umemployed Indonesian women to become beauty professionals and take control of their life.
Best Showcase
Finally, Green Feast founder Vinayak Rawat won the audience over with his Agri-Tech startup. Green Feast offers a year-round solution for chemical-free, fresh food, delivered from a climate-controlled environment to the customer’s doorstep within 2 hours. The business uses hydroponics technology to grow leafy greens in India and provide a one-stop solution for healthy and chemical-free food.
