The research undertaken at the UCL School of Management has been rated as ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF), placing us 2nd in the UK for Business and Management.
The REF is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. It first took place in 2014, when UCL was ranked the number one UK university for research strength, and 72.5% of UCL School of Management’s research output was deemed to be ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’.
The REF 2021 results, released on 12 May 2022, show a significant increase in The School of Management’s scores, confirming our position as a leading UK institution producing innovative and disruptive research. This year 95% of our research outputs were deemed ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’.
UCL as an institution has been ranked, yet again, second in the UK for research power with 93% of its research deemed ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ and maintained its position as the top UK university by research strength, with the greatest amount of world-leading research in life and medical sciences and social sciences of any university in the UK.
Director of the School, Professor Davide Ravasi said: “Our results have improved significantly across the board. The results are a testament to the extraordinary quality of our community and vibrancy of our research culture, and consolidate our position as one of the leading research institutions in the country in our field. Which, when you consider that the UCL School of Management is much younger and smaller than other comparable schools, is a fantastic achievement.”
